Homeschool Day: Wild Engineering – From Beavers to Batteries

Bring the homeschool experience to The Wild Center and immerse yourself in STEAM-based nature learning like never before. This year we are offering private homeschool experiences, events, and activities catered specifically for you. Homeschool families are welcome to participate in private programs, meet our animal ambassadors, and stop by the Naturalist Cabinet for science and art-based activities.

Free for members. Non-members: Adult (18+), $10; Youth (5-17), $5, children ages 4 and under are free

September 19: Wild Engineering – From Beavers to Batteries, a hands-on exploration of animal behavior and engineering innovation, featuring enrichment activities with animal care staff, creative building stations, and live demonstrations. Families can craft beaver dams, design model cities, and build ball runs while learning how nature inspires technology.

SCHEDULE:

  • 10 am - 1 pm: Create Animal Enrichment With Animal Care Staff in the Naturalist Cabinet
  • 1 pm - 2 pm: Animal Enrichment Program & Demo in the Flammer Theater
  • 10 am - 4 pm: Craft Your Own Beaver Dam in the Animal Viewing Area
  • Build & Light Up Model City in the Tinkering Studio
    10 am - 3 pm (building, self-guided)
    3 pm - 4 pm (lighting, staff-guided)
  • 10 am - 5 pm: Design Your Own Ball Run at the bottom of Raquette River Roll on the Fen Trail
