American Revolution: Haudenosaunee Perseverance
May 16, 2026
An educator professional development opportunity.
Join educators from Native Knowledge 360°, the education initiative of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, at The Wild Center for an in-depth professional development experience focused on the classroom-ready resource American Revolution: Haudenosaunee Perseverance.
This interactive, standards-aligned resource explores how the Haudenosaunee Confederacy (Mohawk, Oneida, Tuscarora, Onondaga, Cayuga, and Seneca nations) persevered during and after the American Revolution. The day will begin with an opening by Dave Kanietakeron Fadden and Margaret Kanatiiosta Fadden (Akwesasne Mohawk), followed by a panel discussion featuring MJ Schenandoah (Wolf Clan, Oneida Nation, Oneida, NY), Tekatsi:tsia’ kwa Katsi Cook (Wolf Clan, Mohawk Nation, Akwesasne, NY), and Kanatakeniate Tom Cook (Wolf Clan, Mohawk Nation, Akwesasne, NY) who will share insights into the roles of women in Haudenosaunee society, including their influence in diplomacy and decision-making. These perspectives provide critical context for understanding Haudenosaunee experiences during this pivotal period in history.
Participants will then explore how to use this nationally available digital inquiry resource in the classroom. The resource engages students with video interviews, primary and secondary sources, original maps, and images to investigate the question: In what ways did the Haudenosaunee persevere through and after the American Revolution?
Attendees will also enjoy guided tours of The Wild Center. Certificates of participation and CTLE credit will be available.
Limited spots, registration required.
