The Adirondacks is a region known for sustainability and environmental stewardship, but did you know a large portion of Adirondack residents cannot put solar panels directly on their residences and businesses? Community solar can solve that issue through the installation of a shared solar farm. Join Conrad Karsten of Saranac Lake Community Solar and Witter Swanson of The Wild Center’s Youth Climate Program Advisory Board for a conversation on the value of shared solar energy. Witter and Conrad will discuss the current effort taking place to bring locally generated green power to the region while providing material savings on energy to its residents and businesses. As part of the Adirondack Pollinator Project and in partnership with AdkAction, Saranac Lake Community Solar will be creating pollinator habitat below solar arrays to support native species of bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.

About Conrad Karsten, Project Manager – Community Solar at Sunvestment Group
Conrad Karsten is the Project Manager of Community Solar at Sunvestment Group, one of the companies responsible for developing the Saranac Lake Community Solar farm. Conrad has been working in the solar industry for the past two years, developing projects in New York and the mid-Atlantic region. He is passionate about community solar because of its ability to increase access to renewable energy and benefit local communities. In his spare time, Conrad enjoys kayaking, cooking, and hiking.
About Witter Swanson, Student and Member of The Wild Center’s Youth Climate Program Advisory Board
Witter is a rising senior at Amherst College where he studies Political Science and Environmental Studies. A graduate of Saranac Lake High School, Witter was involved with the Wild Center’s Youth Climate Program as a high school student and he currently serves on the youth advisory board of the program.
