Photography composition is an art, not a science! While there are different ‘rules’ for creating a nicely balanced photograph, these are best considered guidelines, not rules. Spend a day at The Wild Center, with Carl Heilman as your guide and instructor, exploring ways to refine and improve your photo composition techniques. The day will include class time and shooting time, which will include critique time on images each person brings to the class, plus additional critique time on images taken during a photo session in the area.

Photographer, Carl Heilman, has been photographing the Adirondacks since the mid 1970’s and has been working with digital image files since 1997. He has led photo workshops since the early 1990’s and has been presenting photography workshops in Brant Lake since 1997 through Wild Visions, Inc. His coffee table books on the Adirondacks, Lake George, New York State, the Smokies and Blue Ridge Mountains, and Maine have been published by Rizzoli, Voyageur Press, and North Country Books. His AV programs have aired on regional PBS stations, and he was interviewed for the May 2008 national PBS special, ‘The Adirondacks’. His photo techniques book, The Landscape Photography Field Guide (2011 Focal Press), is a comprehensive handbook about landscape photography techniques. Photographing the Adirondacks (2013 Countryman Press), is a regional guidebook to more than 200 photo locations throughout the Adirondack Park.

The photo tour begins at The Wild Center for a quick introduction and space is limited to 8 participants. The cost of each is $150 for members, $175 for non-members.

Cancellation and Refund Policy: If you cancel your registration 14 days or more before a program starts we will refund the full program cost. Cancellations received less than 14 days before the start of a program will not be refunded unless we can fill your reservation with another interested participant. The Wild Center reserves the right to cancel this trip based on severe weather or other hazardous conditions, in which case a full refund or transfer option will be provided.
